47 PONDS BEING DEVELOPED ON LINES OF THAPAR/SEECHEWAL MODELS

DEWATERING AND DESILTING  TO IMMENSELY BENEFIT TO CATER NEEDS OF RURAL AREAS

HOSHIARPUR, AUGUST 25 (ADESH): In order to ensure seamless availability of basic amenities in rural areas, the District Administration has got all the 457 village ponds cleaned at a cost of Rs. 2.73 crore, which would immensely benefit the rural populace in the district.
 


Giving details in this regard, the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait said that all the village ponds had been properly cleaned with dewatering and desilting through MGNREGS.  She said that under the massive cleaning campaign of ponds the district administration had even ensured work for these workers amid lockdown with generation of 52511 man-days.
 


The Deputy Commissioner further informed that as many as 47 ponds were being developed on the pattern of Thapar and Seechewal models in the district and the treated water of these models ponds could be utilised  for irrigation purposes.

Riyait said that on State Government’s directives, cleaning of village ponds were initiated last year, which had been successfully accomplished. He further added that the project had provided a succour to the unemployed rural folk by ensuring man-days under MGNREGA especially in present trying circumstances.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the District Administration had completed the task of dewatering and desilting work well in time before the monsoon. She said that under this cleaning campaign as many as 242 ponds were desilted and 215 dewatered in the district.
