ARREST TRUCK DRIVER AND SEIZE 110 KG POPPY-HUSK

Jalandhar, September 8 (CDT NEWS)- Continuing its strict vigil over the drug peddlers along with frontline duty in Covid-19 pandemic, the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested a truck driver and seized 110-kg poppy husk from the heavy vehicle.

The accused has been identified as Balwinder Singh (45) of Railu Majra village, Rupnagar District.

Disclosing more information, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that a team of CIA staff-1 laid a Naka in Paragpur on national-highway and the team stopped a truck (PB65-E-7989) loaded with homoeopathic medicines for checking.

He said that during questioning of its driver, the cops suspected and a search was carried out in a truck and found six plastic bags packed with poppy husk weighing 110-kg.

In preliminary interrogation, Balwinder told that he had brought poppy husk from Rajasthan and was in the drug business for last two years, Mr Gupreet Singh Bhullar said and added that Balwinder was in touch with a peddler namely Dinesh of Rajasthan and was pushing the poppy husk here with his help.

He said that before entering Jalandhar, Balwinder had supplied a drug consignment in Ludhiana’s Dehlon to a person on the instances of Dinesh and also had to deliver 100-kg poppy husk here to latter’s link and 10-kg was to be sold out by himself.

Commissioner of Police said that he used to get Rs 30000 as a commission for each quintal of supplying the drugs.

He said that the accused has been booked under section 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and would be produced in local courts. He said that police would seek his further custody to quiz him about other drug network and Dinesh.
