HOSHIARPUR, SEPTEMBER 10: In a first of its kind initiative to sensitise people about COVID sampling & testing, the Hoshiarpur Administration on Thursday started special awareness camps in villages with camps in village Powal and Rehsiwal.

Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait had issued directions to hold such camps to ensure 100 percent sampling and testing of residents in the district to keep the coronavirus at bay. She also directed that all the villages would be covered under this awareness endeavour for the safety of public. The awareness camps will be taken place in all villages, said the Deputy Commissioner adding that senior officers of administration would lead these camps to educate the people about timely sampling, testing and treatment of positive cases as per health protocols. To save precious lives. She apprised that as per the instructions of State Government  now the COVID positive persons could stay in home isolation by adhering to all requisite health safety protocols so the general masses needed not get panicked in this regard.

While conducting these camps with participation of villagers as per COVID protocols especially social distancing at Poval and Rehsiwal in village Gurdwaras, the Hoshiarpur SDM Amit Mahajan, who himself emerged as victorious against Corona, urged the people to come forward for sampling besides extending fulsome support & cooperation to health teams visiting respective villages to take samples. “The sampling & testing is beneficial not harmful as it helps in early detection of the virus and it is easy to fight the virus at an early stage. All of us should undergo COVID tests in larger public interest, which could be immensely beneficial to keep the further spread of virus under check effectively” said Mahajan while addressing the villagers.

Making a fervent appeal to people not to fall prey to rumours but be vigilant and alert about COVID in case of any symptom, the SDM said that corona could be easily beaten by following the precautions strictly. People should cooperate health teams visiting their places for COVID sampling besides adhering to health safety protocols especially proper wearing of masks, avoiding crowd and congestion and maintain social distancing  in the light of COVID-19 outbreak. He also apprised that there was no fee for COVID testing in Government Hospital as the State had made elaborate arrangements in healthcare institutions including Civil Hospital. He also pointed out that the State Government had also issued directions for not pasting stickers outside the homes of positive cases to reduce the social stigma.

Meanwhile, the District Development and Panchayats Officer Sarbjit Singh Bains also encouraged the people for testing in larger public interest. He said that these special camps would be organised in all villages with active involvement of Panchayats to motivate people for covid testing.

Thanking the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, Powal village Sarpanch Paramjit Singh said that this unique initiative of Administration would prove to be helpful for villagers as the health teams are taking samples in villages. He appealed the general masses to undergo test so that timely action could be taken to contain COVID.

Sharing his experience Shiv Lal Sarpanch of village Rehsiwal said that people should not be panicked in view of COVID-19 pandemic as precautions were the best answers. He said that he, himself and his wife, who is Aanganwari worker undergone COVID test and tested negative. On his request, the SDM Amit Mahajan assured that within few days health teams would visit village for corona testing camp, where villagers could get themselves tested.
