HOSHIARPUR, JANUARY 24 (ADESH, KARAN): Greeting people on the auspicious occasion of National Girls Child Day, the Chabbewal MLA Dr. Raj Kumar reiterated commitment of Punjab Government for holistic development of girls and women in the State besides highlighting the landmark endeavours of State Government including distribution of Smart Phones, reservation for girls in jobs and elections of panchayats & urban local bodies.

        Asserting that there should be no discrimination and bias against girls as they were excelling in all fields across the globe, MLA Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal pointed out that Punjab Government had provided 50 percent reservation to women in Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies polls, which would certainly strengthen their social, financial and political stature in the society. He stated that the Punjab Government’s initiative to provide Smart Phones to students of XII class of Government Schools proved a boon for them as with these Smart Phones they were able to pursue their studies online. Under Smart Connect Program of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh nearly 87,000 girl students have received smart phones in the state. He said that 9052 students in Hoshiarpur district had got smart phones of which 1058 were from Chabbewal constituency itself had got smart phones. The MLA said that these smart phones had enabled the students to continue their studies online amid COVID-19 lockdown. 
        Lauding the recent decision of Punjab Government for fixing 33 percent reservation for girls in government jobs, MLA Dr. Chabbewal said that besides this major decision, Captain Amarinder led State Government had also reserved 50 percent seats in Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies for women. He said that these steps would surely enhance the pace of development of women in all sections of society. He said that Punjab Government was also fully committed for the safety of women and the state had established Sakhi-One Stop Centers to protect the rights of women. These Centers, said Dr. Chabbewal, received 5117 complaints of which 4983 had been resolved amicably while 134 were under process at different stages. The state Government is also constructing seven hostels at different places to facilitate working women along with day care facilities for their wards at a cost of Rs. 50 crores. The MLA said that Punjab Government was also providing monetary assistance to the tune of Rs. 8000 to each victim of acid attack besides taking strict measures to ensure safety and security of women in the state.
