HOSHIARPUR, MAY 3: Seeking wholehearted support of people to ensure a win over the second wave of COVID-19, the Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal has appealed to the people to support police and administration by staying at home and to obey the guidelines issued by the government.

The SSP further stated that he intends people-friendly policing and believes that rather than enforcement action by police, people should take the first step on their own against the pandemic and support the police in saving their lives. He said that peoples’ constant support and cooperation could ensure to keep the virus at bay efficaciously.

Taking stern action against the COVID norms violators, 46 FIRs have been registered during weekend curfew in district Hoshiarpur, said the SSP adding that strict Naka Bandi was done the entire day for stopping people from roaming around in the city in order to cut the transmission chain. He said that people must adhere to Government guidelines issued up to May 15 but all the efforts of the administration would go in vain if people weren’t staying at home.

Urging the people to abide by the government guidelines, the SSP said that all non-essential commodity shops such as salons, jewellery shops, clothing stores, cosmetic shops etc would remain completely closed till May 15 while the entire market spaces will remain closed except the essential commodity shops such as milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, dairy, poultry, medical shops, clinical laboratories etc. He pointed out that there is complete night curfew 6 pm to 5 am and people should not violate the same. As per the directives of Government dine-in has been prohibited in hotels/ restaurants along with a complete lockdown has been imposed on Saturday-Sundays. Two passengers allowed in 4 wheeler vehicles and 1 person on two wheeler vehicles. Transit by people should be done in case of utmost necessity. Villages will have to organize Thikri pehras to protect rural areas from further spread of virus by limiting their contact with people outside the village.

       The district police also appealed people to avoid over-crowding at religious places which will be closed after 6pm on week days. Similarly, people must stay away from large sabzi mandis which can be sites of super spread and rather buy vegetables from street vendors as it will drastically reduce their exposure hence reducing the chances of transmission.
