AWARENESS VANS FLAGGED OFF TO DISSEMINATE MESSAGE AGAINST STUBBLE BURNING
• 10 PANCHAYATS TO BE AWARDED IN DISTRICT WITH ZERO STUBBLE BURNING IN ITS VILLAGES
HOSHIARPUR, OCTOBER 4: In a bid to contain stubble burning and sensitise people against this ill-practice hazardous for environment as well as human health, the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait on Monday flagged off three awareness vans to disseminate message against stubble burning at grassroots level.
Dispatching these vans to the areas, where cases of stubble burning recorded during last season, Apneet Riyait also exhorted the farmers not to burn paddy straw in the fields and come forward for the management of crop residue in their respective fields. The Deputy Commissioner also emphasised that it was need of the hour to shun this practice which is harmful not only for environment but also for human health besides weakening the health of soil in fields. This ill-practice also creating smog, which further led to different health problems, she added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Viney Kumar informed that the Department was making all out efforts to encourage farmers against the stubble burning in larger interests of society. He said that the Punjab Government would honour the panchayats having more than 60 percent of agriculture land under paddy cultivation and zero crop residue burning in the area. The Panchayats will be honoured with Rs. 50,000, said the Chief Agriculture Officer adding that during this season 10 panchayats would be chosen under this program. He also stated that the department had also launched I-KHET app for the facilitation of farmers to know the available machinery with the department and they could be utilised on rent basis.
